THRALL's third studio album is a conceptual exploration of themes relating to the suicide forest (Aokigahara Jukai). On "Aokigahara Jukai", THRALL successfully articulates misanthropy without hypocrisy, blending traditional Black Metal elements with Doom, Death Metal and Crust influences. The trajectory of the album takes the listener on an unrelenting, furious, void-ward journey from the opening track to the final deathlike strains of emptiness. Coupled with the artworks aesthetic qualities of smothering detail, “Aokigahara Jukai” is an immensely compelling document of unrivalled intensity and vision.

On Aokigahara Jukai, Thrall successfully articulates misanthropy without hypocrisy. By blending traditional black metal elements, with doom, death metal and crust influences, Thrall creates unique, memorable music. The trajectory of the album takes the listener on an unrelenting furious void-ward journey from the opening track to the final deathlike strains of emptiness. Coupled with the artwork’s aesthetic qualities of smothering detail, Aokigahara Jukai is an immensely compelling document of unrivalled intensity and intent...

"There is great beauty to be found in the ugly, if you want to look hard enough – in force, in desolation, in inevitable death and decay, as much as in vitality. Thrall’s Aokigahara Jukai is a polychotomous testament of supporting evidence. For a concept album exploring themes related to, dedicated to, Japan’s suicide forest, there’s a subtle elegance here. It peeks out from beneath the ubiquitous sonic violence and unchecked misanthropy, but it’s there – wildflower buds beginning to sprout up from a field of putrefying corpses. As completely heretical and antithetical as it is to utter this, Aokigahara Jukai is hands-down the most life-affirming record I heard in 2013." - LAST RITES - Kyle Harcötts Top 10 of 2013

"So, Thrall is one of those bands that gives me chills when I listen to them as they have so many of the sounds that a love and want to create as well. Part Crust, Doom, Sludge, Black, Drone, Prog and Noise, all at the same time and all at different times. There is even Thrash moments thrown in for good measure. If Kreator, Eyehategod and Marduk decided to have a band with members of Swans and Sonic Youth this is where Thrall would come form its almost where I saw Twilight heading before their demise. It's where bands like Mayhem and Saytricon are heading and where bands like Manes, Code and Ishahn has just moved past. Post Metal with Black and Doom movements with a love of fractured sounds and the notes between the notes in the way Noise and Jazz meet." - ABSOLUTE ZERO MEDIA

"Thrall ...crosses genres, with black metal the most dominant, but with doom, sludge, and even post-metal in the mix as well. The song has a dark atmosphere throughout, but it rocks as much as it ravages." - NO CLEAN SINGING

Track Name: Longing for Death
Longing for Death 死への憧れ
This is the time of tension
Between birth and death
This is the place of solitude
Where three dreams cross again
Exile

Longing for death
This is my final act
Of rebellion

This is the time of catharsis
Between agony and relief
This is the place of solitude
Where corporeal shackles are cast
Aside

Longing for death
Internalise the void
Through transfiguration

The doom of notions

I crave
The silence of the grave
As my tortured fractured soul
Tears itself apart

The doom of notions

I crave
The silence of the grave
As this miserable fucking world
Tears itself apart

Exile
Track Name: Aokigahara Jukai
Aokigahara Jukai 青木ヶ原 海
In the trees
Blue pervades
Beneath the fog
In Earth’s maggot-womb

These gnarled roots
Like knots of hair
Ensnare and blind
To feed the trees

In this suffocating darkness
I can no longer tell
Where my body ends and the forest
Begins

Strangled in the black roots
Drawn down
Into the hungry dirt
Those who before me
Perished here
Worm and pest made palaces
Of their bones

Those who stray
From the well-lit path
Suckle the black milk
Of death’s harvest

Bodies on dank earth
Silver in the moonlight

In this suffocating darkness
I can no longer tell
Where my body ends and the forest
Begins

Strangled in the black roots
Drawn down
Into the hungry dirt
Web of contempt
Wrought in barb and thorn
Worm and pest made palaces
Of their bones

Oh
The trees are bathed in blood
Well-hidden and death-ridden

Take the rope
Leap into the void
Take the knife
Slash sentience away

There is no escape
No hope in sight
Aokigahara
Jukai

This is the end
Tonight we die
Aokigahara
Jukai
Track Name: Of Hate
Of Hate 憎しみの
A myopic formiciform race
Laid their larvae deep inside your mind
Cloned themselves through you
Parasitically fed within you

The sibilant swarm
Suckled on barbed teats of hate
Blind since birth
Indoctrinated

Vipers’ venom was your mother’s milk
Ensuring your mental-malnourishment
Bigotry was your playground
Native to hates homeland

The rabid pack
Suckled on barbed teats of hate
Blind since birth
Indoctrinated

Marching
To the beat of atavistic adirato
Hate
Your inheritance
Track Name: Its Toothless Maw
Its Toothless Maw その歯のない口
Boundless
Formless
Lightless
Lifeless

Its silent howl deafens
Its sightless gaze blinds
Its odorless stench suffocates
Its toothless maw devours
All

The antithesis of life
The antithesis of love

Boundless
Formless
Lightless
Loveless
Its ghastly vibration obliterates
Its absolute dominion commands
Its odorless stench suffocates
Its toothless maw devours
All

The antithesis of life
The antithesis of love
Track Name: Ubasute
Ubasute 姥捨て
氷塊の洞穴を過ぎ past the cave of ice
風穴を過ぎ past the cave of wind
幽冥に続く to the shadow
その山の樹海へと of the mountain into the sea of trees

青木ヶ原へ to Aokigahara I go
不帰の客となろう never to be seen again

パン屑の道しるべを残そう leaving the breadcrumb trail
息子のために for my son
家に辿り着けるように to follow home
歩き進む onward

青木ヶ原へ to Aokigahara I go
不帰の客となろう never to be seen again

ここは何処だ here is where
斃れそうだ I will lay
ここは何処だ here is where
終わりがきた I wait to die
幽冥に続く in the shadow
その山の樹海で of the mountain in the sea of trees
Track Name: The Pact
The Pact 協定
The pact
Will made-form
Word made-flesh
Our dolourous exile

Cold ice-ridden air
With fire in our lungs
Hot wrathful prescience
With ice in our minds

A serpentine path
Our irrevocable epitaph

Shed our vessels
Hollow beings – at one with the void
Our blackened wings unfurl

Oh the pact resounds
From our withered lips
Cancerous ash falls
From our feathers

Pestilence blooms
In our footsteps
Wormwood radiates
From our scales

Our independence night
In the arboreal gloom
We will rot
Bound forever
Track Name: Slaves
Slaves 奴隷
Human
Semi-human
Grotesquely heterogeneous
Procession of slaves

Cowering before non-existent gods
That loosed unspeakable horrors upon you

To live in fear is to be a slave
To live in fear is to be a slave

Fractionally human
Not human at all
Grotesquely heterogeneous
Procession of slaves

Kneeling before despotic tyrants
That loosed unspeakable horrors upon you

To live in fear is to be a slave
To live in fear is to be a slave

Commit to mental deicide
Slay your oppressors
Without and within

Spare us your proselytization
The system of your beliefs
That shelters your psyche
Limits your consciousness

Slaves
